The Portland Trail Blazers already seemed to have plenty of guard depth, especially with Damian Lillard slated to come back from injury in 2026-27.

Now, they've traded for Ja Morant, and everything is a bit more crowded on the depth chart. Maybe another trade is coming?

The reported deal sends Jerami Grant and Kris Murray back to the Memphis Grizzlies for the athletically gifted but bumpy-road point guard.

Morant is a big get for Portland. It just feels like more has to happen here, because the backcourt is now quite full.

Ja Morant is surely going to be the starting point guard, so how will this work?

The Blazers without Morant likely had some combination of Damian Lillard, Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe and Jrue Holiday to play the guard spots.

Morant isn't big, and it'd be tough to play him for long stretches alongside either Lillard or Henderson.

Sharpe and Holiday can both play the shorting guard spot more readily than any of those guys.

That's why this feels like a trade is coming.

A logical, future-looking lineup would include Morant with either Henderson or Sharpe in the backcourt for heavy minutes. Maybe they can turn Lillard into a high-octane sixth man.

The Blazers will have a logical starting frontcourt with Toumani Camara, Deni Avdija and Donovan Clingan -- so if they can figure out the guard spots, they can be pretty good.
