LeBron James has left the Los Angeles Lakers after eight successful years and a championship back in 2020. He is not planning on retiring yet, so he will be joining a new team in the 2026 offseason.

A lot of teams around the league have shown interest, as the Golden State Warriors lead the charge. However, there are plenty of opportunities for other teams, including a return to the Miami Heat.

Iman Shumpert and Kendrick Perkins get honest about a LeBron James Heat return

Throughout his career, LeBron has found ways to succeed by joining teams he knows have the players to support him. With the Heat, he could have one of the best teams in the league yet again because of their trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

With Bam Adebayo and Giannis, LeBron could have another big three. They might not have the perimeter shooting that people usually expect from a LeBron team, but it is still quite a talented group he could join up with.

As former champions and teammates of LeBron's, Iman Shumpert and Kendrick Perkins know a lot more about LeBron than the average person watching the league. That is why their analysis of the potential return to Miami matters.

"Bron has to assimilate into a 3-and-D role. He has to end up changing it because he has to do his point forward thing. The only thing that scares me is who will be the other guy who's shooting," Shumpert said on ESPN about LeBron potentially joining up with the Heat again.

Perkins then pointed out that LeBron is now more experienced in playing a smaller role than what he's used to. He played alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in the 2025-26 season and was firmly the third option in the system.

If he does end up joining the Heat, he will be at most a second option behind Giannis. It won't be that rough of a adjustment period for him, but the fit is still a bit shaky because the Heat will severely lack perimeter shooting.
