Interpol identified the bombing suspect as Anastasiia Berezovska of Ukraine. She was named the prime suspect in a red notice posted on website of Interpol, which is seeking her arrest.
Berezovska was seen in Germany, Reuters reported. A Monaco prosecutor said the suspect was disguised as a man, Sky News reported.
On Monday, authorities said a parcel bomb exploded in the lobby of one of Monaco’s fanciest apartment buildings, seriously wounding a man and woman, and injuring a teenager.
Monaco public prosecutor Stephane Thibault said on Tuesday the man had been stabilized, but the woman’s condition remained “life-threatening.”
Authorities are treating the incident as an attempted murder case. The explosive device reportedly contained bolts and buckshot.
Who is Anastasiia Berezovska?
According to Interpol, Berezovska was born on June 26, 1987, and last resided in Germany. The suspect has a tattoo, possibly of a snake, running down her right arm from her shoulder to elbow.
Following the bombing, prosecutors said Berezovska fled to France, then drove to Italy in a rented German-registered car, CNN reported.
Due to the sophistication of the bomb, prosecutors believed that more than one perpetrator was involved. Two men were arrested in Monaco before being released due to a lack of evidence.
Who was the target?
The intended target of the bombing was Ukrainian-born businessman Vadym Yermolaiev. Ukrainian media reported that Yermolaiev had previously been targeted with sanctions because of his ties to Russia.
The 58-year-old Yermolaiev is a sanctioned multimillionaire with a reportedly long list of enemies in Ukraine, AFP reported.
Yermolaiev operated an alcohol business in Crimea, paying taxes to Russia even after it invaded Ukraine.
An AFP source said people would’ve been lining up to kill the man in Dnipro, the city where he got wealthy.
Yermolaiev built his fortune in the construction business in Dnipro, becoming one of the city’s largest property developers, per AFP.
He obtained Cypriot citizenship in the 2010s and has lived in Monaco since at least 2021. He denied charges of operating in Crimea.
