The San Francisco Giants were not able to get much out of Logan Webb or Matt Gage in game one of a three-game slate against the Colorado Rockies.

In the end, the Giants fell 15-3 in a game that Giants manager Buster Posey and Co. would love to soon forget.

Sadly, the ramifications are still prevalent here on Saturday, July 4.

The team announced that Gage, a left-handed pitcher, was placed on the 15-day Injured List due to a left elbow strain.

In the corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Spencer Bivens was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.

Gage Heads to the IL

Not much has been revealed about the extent of Gage's elbow strain, but more details should surface in due time.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle posted on X, "Matt Gage says he hasn’t had an MRI yet, that will be Monday in SF, but he sounds pretty resigned to TJ [Tommy John] surgery. Says he didn’t say anything to coaches last night, wanted to leave everything out there. His velocity was way down by the end, he was only throwing fastballs."

"I'm happy with it. I left it all out there," Gage told San Jose Mercury News reporter Justus delos Santos after news broke that he was heading to the IL.

Gage, 33, is currently on his fourth team in a four-year sample size. He made his big-league debut in 2022 and made his way to San Francisco in 2025. During his time with the Giants, he's appeared in 61 games, making just two starts. Overall, he's 4-1 with the Giants but sports a career 4-3 record.

Even though Gage was 4-1 this season, his record doesn't tell the entire story. He's on pace for a career high ERA, one that rose to 5.60 after his disastrous Coors Field outing. He sports a -0.4 WAR, one that represents a career low for the New York native.

Bivens' 2026 Debut is Right Around the Corner

Bivens, 32, is no stranger to playing in the big leagues, but he's spent the entire 2026 season in the minors.

With 81 career games in the majors, Bivens is coming off a 2025 season where he appeared in a career-high 54 games. Overall, he's 7-4 and has made just two starts, both of which came in 2024.

Bivens' ERA sat at 4.00 a year ago. which was up from the 3.14 it was in his rookie season. But it's worth noting he pitched in exactly double the number of games.

The Virginia native has pitched exclusively in Triple-A this season. In his 23 games, he's made six starts with a 5-2 record and 4.32 ERA in 50.0 innings pitched.
