The Milwaukee Brewers are atop the NL Central as the All-Star break and the MLB trade deadline approach this summer, and they have some needs to address.

While the left side of the infield could use some help, and maybe even the starting rotation could use one more addition, the bullpen is likely their top need.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden agrees, identifying the bullpen as their "primary need." In doing so, he also identified the team's best fit, which happens to be 0.60 ERA New York Mets reliever A.J. Minter.

Brewers best fit at trade deadline is Mets' A.J. Minter

"However, their primary need is bullpen depth, and adding a third left-handed reliever makes a lot of sense," Bowden writes. "... Best fit: A.J. Miner, LHP, New York Mets. Minter has pitched well since returning from left lat surgery in late May."

While it wouldn't be a surprise for the Brewers to go big-game hunting at the trade deadline, a smaller deadline move like adding Minter would fit this team perfectly as well.

The 32-year-old veteran reliever for the Mets has been great, pitching to the tune of a 0.60 ERA in 15 games this season after posting a 1.64 ERA in 13 games during the 2025 season before injury cut his season short.

Minter has a 3.12 ERA in his big league career, and that's across 374.2 innings. The Mets reliever might be one of the best options available this summer at the deadline.

He will be a free agent after the 2026 season, so the Brewers shouldn't have to give up much to land him from the Mets. While the Mets might have some bitter feelings for how the Freddy Peralta trade worked out, they won't avoid a deal with Minter this summer.

As tempting as it might be for the Brewers to try and land some of the top names on the market, adding a quality depth piece like Minter might be all they need to do to win the NL Central and have the right pieces for a postseason run.

In his 20-game postseason career, across 25 innings, Minter has a 2.88 ERA. That's the kind of production that should have any postseason contender very interested in a deal this summer, the Brewers being one of those clubs.
