Skylar Diggins says she's been benched by Sky just 19 games into 2-year deal

After bottoming out the past two seasons, the Chicago Sky promised things would be different in 2026. But after trading away Angel Reese, there were questions over how the franchise intended to turn things around after winning 23 games combined over the past two seasons.

Enter Skylar Diggins, who signed with the team shortly after the Reese trade. Despite her age, Diggins, 35, was a bona fide star who was expected to be one of the focal points on a revamped Sky team.

After just 19 games, however, it appears the Sky had second thoughts, as Diggins seemed to imply on social media that she's been benched by the team.

She sent out two updates on her Instagram story announcing the news. The first said, "Now I'm coming off the bench? Cool." In the second, Diggins appears in a video, where she says, "And the crazy part about it all is I've been so quiet. I've been so good and quiet."

If true, it would mark quite a shift for the Sky, which signed Diggins to a two-year, $1.8 million deal in the offseason.

Despite that signing, the Sky have failed to right the ship. The team sits at 6-14 through 20 games, good for one of the worst records in the league.

Diggins has put up solid numbers despite the team's struggles. In 19 games, she's averaging 14.2 points, 4.9 assists and a .392 field-goal percentage. Those figures are below her normal averages, though she still ranks third on the team in points per game and second in assists per game.

The Sky don't play until Tuesday, when they'll take on the Phoenix Mercury.

Given Diggins' apparent frustration with the situation, a trade could be in the future for the team and veteran. Diggins has a history of excellent play throughout her career, making seven All-Star teams and being named to the All-NBA team six times.

If the Sky do make her available, Diggins would presumably draw plenty of interest, even if her numbers are slightly down this season.
