Following an NBA Play-In Tournament defeat to Orlando, the Charlotte Hornets opened up their 2026 NBA Summer League campaign against the Magic, looking to defend their summer league title from a year ago.
While Kon Knueppel isn't a part of Charlotte's roster, the Hornets have a good mix of rookies and returning players, most notably Liam McNeeley, Ryan Kalkbrenner, Tidjane Salaun and Sion James.

McNeeley was the main standout of the group in Thursday's opener, scoring 28 points on 9-for-18 shooting, including an impressive 7-for-8 shooting performance from beyond the arc. Recent No. 14 overall selection Hannes Steinbach impressed as well, posting a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Lastly, Ryan Kalkbrenner showcased an improved passing ability, finishing the evening with 10 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and five assists.
Charlotte's next matchup will come Saturday, July 11, against the New Orleans Pelicans.
