England downed Norway to secure a place in the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup last night, and who else but Jude Bellingham would help seal the win.

Both of England’s goals on the night were scored by Real Madrid’s in-form sensation as he demolished Norway’s defence with his smart movements and adept finishing. Further, his work rate off the ball was inspiring and he also helped add to the transitional threat.

Considering that Bellingham delivered such a stand-out performance while at risk of suspension, needless to say, puts the player’s quality back into perspective.

Praise from a compatriot

England midfielder Morgan Rogers came on as a late substitute on the night and played a critical role in setting up Jude Bellingham’s second goal on the night with a goal-bound effort whose rebound fell kindly for the Real Madrid star.

Speaking to the media (h/t The Madrid Zone) after the game, Rogers was asked what he made of Bellingham’s campaign in the competition so far, to which he did not hold back in heaping praise on his compatriot.

“My thoughts on Jude Bellingham? World Cup Golden Ball winner, maybe,” he honestly confessed.

The player then spoke out on the pre-tournament conversations on whether or not Bellingham should play the event which appears absurd now in retrospect.

“He’s just unbelievable. Those who thought he would not play in the World Cup are crazy.”

A special run so far

While Rogers’ statement may appear far-fetched to some, Bellingham may not indeed be far off from the Golden Ball in the World Cup.

Should England go on to win the competition, the only other player who has a case to win the award is Harry Kane.

Comparing Kane’s campaign to Bellingham’s, however, there is little to no doubt that the Real Madrid star has been a notch above even the Bayern Munich star.

So far in the competition, Bellingham already has six goals to his name including two braces in the last two knockout games. At this point, he is the team’s most dangerous attacking player by some distance.
