Kentucky Basketball head coach Mark Pope continues to recruit one of Europe’s top young prospects, as French forward Cameron Houindo recently had a Zoom call with the Wildcats’ coaching staff, according to Dylan Brake of Bleed Blue Network.

The 6-foot-8 forward also met with Pope in Ljubljana, Slovenia, during the Kentucky coach’s overseas recruiting trip in late April and early May, further demonstrating the Wildcats’ interest in the 18-year-old prospect.

Houindo, who currently plays professionally for KK Cedevita Olimpija in Slovenia, has become one of the most intriguing international prospects eligible for the 2027 NBA Draft. Known for his impressive athleticism, length, and versatility, Houindo has steadily expanded his offensive game. While his perimeter shooting is still developing, he has shown encouraging flashes as a face-up scorer during recent EuroLeague NextGen Tournament performances.

The French standout has enjoyed a breakout year on the international stage, earning MVP honors at both the EuroLeague NextGen Ulm Qualifier and the 2026 Basketball Without Borders Global Camp during NBA All-Star Weekend. He also averaged more than 21 points and nearly 10 rebounds per game at the EuroLeague NextGen Finals in Athens.

After developing through France’s prestigious INSEP program, Houindo signed professionally with Cedevita Olimpija in 2025, helping the club capture the Slovenian League, Slovenian Cup, and Slovenian Supercup titles.

While Houindo remains a long-term prospect with room to grow, Kentucky’s continued communication with the talented forward signals that Pope is keeping close tabs on one of Europe’s highest-upside young players.
