Police have upped the ante in the quest to solve a cold-case homicide in the Ottawa Valley.
Mere weeks after the mother of Jonathan Logan urged witnesses to contact cops on the three-year anniversary of his shooting death in Renfrew, police are now offering a substantial cash reward to help cuff a suspect and have erected a billboard on the main strip off the Trans-Canada Highway.
The sign at Hwy. 60 and Innovation Dr., along the main thoroughfare into the former logging town about an hour’s drive northwest of Ottawa, advertises a $50,000 reward provided by the provincial government, a picture of Logan and ways to contact cops with tips.
“The installation of this billboard marks another step in our commitment to find answers for Jonathan’s family, his friends and the Renfrew community,” Det-Insp. Erin Thomas of the OPP’s criminal investigation branch said in a news release announcing the initiative.
“The public deserves to see those responsible for this violent crime held accountable. We are confident that someone in the community has information that will solve this case. Now is the time to come forward.”
‘Someone knows something’
The OPP said that Logan, who was 41 at the time, was fatally shot on May 19, 2023, at about 10:30 p.m. in a home on Vimy Blvd. in Renfrew.
Cops said the suspect fled from the scene before police arrived and they remain at large. They also believe Logan was deliberately targeted and previously said they were “confident” someone had information that could help crack the case.
“There were several other people in the house that fled when the incident happened,” Det.-Sgt. Joe Limlaw said in a video released in May.
“We believe someone knows something that can help us solve this case and provide answers to Jonathan’s loved ones.”

Witnesses urged to ‘step up’
Witnesses previously told the Ottawa Citizen the day after the shooting that there was usually a steady stream of vehicles flowing through the area and that it was common for them to see intoxicated people and find drug paraphernalia on the street.
While Logan’s mother Catherine previously told the Eganville Leader that Jonathan — who had a daughter — had struggled for years with substance abuse, she said in the May video from the OPP that he was also a protector who “would have stood up for any one of his friends” under similar circumstances.
“If something like this had happened to one of his friends, he would have done the right thing,” Catherine said. “I know a lot of them know something and I understand they’re scared. I would be, too, but it’s my son and I need answers.
“And how you guys can live with yourself right now, I don’t know. But you need to step up.”
