Liverpool given new asking price for attacker Jose Mourinho loves

Liverpool's attack is in dire need of reinforcement.

The Anfield outfit have lost Mohamed Salah and, since it's unclear whether players such as Cody Gakpo, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz will get back to their best during the 2026-27 campaign, the Reds need to keep all of their options open.

Several attackers have already been linked with an Anfield switch with the vast majority of them being left-wingers.

Indeed, the Reds have already signed Victor Munoz who can be used on the right if needed but, since he's never played in the Premier League and wasn't the most prolific last term, it's unclear whether he'll be able to step up to the play and fill Salah's void.

So, to make sure they have enough firepower, a new attacker or two could be brought in with a new asking price now emerging for one of their long-term targets.

Benfica will not accept anything less than €40m for Andreas Schjelderup

Andreas Schjelderup has been one of the breakout stars of the 2026 World Cup.

The Norway international chipped in with a fair few goals and assists during the tournament with his performance against England almost knocking the Three Lions out.

Indeed, he is naturally a left-winger like most of the Reds' other targets but, he has been used on the right a fair amount throughout his career.

The Norwegian was also adored by Jose Mourinho during his time as Benfica manager as he managed to contribute to 17 goals last term.

And, even though Liverpool initially expected a deal for Schjelderup to be cheap, thanks to these recent outings, A Bola are now reporting that any club wanting to sign him would have to splash out at least €40 million (£34 million).

"Schjelderup's desire to play in England has long been known, and the Premier League has never been more attentive to the player," they wrote.

"Tottenham , Chelsea , and Liverpool appear on the radar, according to the latest market information, but they will have to deal with the other side of the coin: if things have become difficult for Benfica regarding the renewal with the Norwegian international, they have also not become easier, in reality, for anyone who wants to take the Norwegian away from Luz.

"Before the World Cup, and after a good end to the season, clearly in contrast to Benfica's team performance, the price tag was set at €40 million and seemed difficult to reach.

"Now, however, Benfica will not settle for less. At least that is the internal desire, fueled by the security of a two-year contract and a shark-proof release clause: €100 million."

Liverpool must decide what their priorities are this summer

Liverpool, like a lot of other Premier League teams, have a fair few players in their sights this summer.

And, if they want to keep up with their title rivals, they're going to have to get into action fairly quickly as, Manchester City have already spent £116 million on Elliott Anderson and could be spending around £80 million on Ayyoub Bouaddi.

But, since the Reds played so poorly last term, it feels like they need to make a lot of changes and improve many areas of their squad.

However, because they don't have an endless money pit, they'll need to sell some of their own players to build up their transfer funds which is a problem in itself.

One of the Reds' main problems last term was their lack of depth so, if they sell even more members of their squad, they'll end up in an even worse position.

So, before anymore bids are made, it feels like Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes need to figure out what they want to do before it's too late.
