Three takeaways from Wisconsin Badgers' first class of 2028 commitment
· Yahoo Sports
The Wisconsin Badgers secured a big-time commitment from four-star linebacker Cale Britt on Wednesday, July 15.

He becomes the team's first class of 2028 commit and does so as a prized four-star recruit.
Britt's commitment video saw him choose the Badgers over Oregon and Minnesota, but other major teams such as Michigan, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Miami all expressed interest.
With such a strong class of 2027, Badgers fans know head coach Luke Fickell desperately needs to knock it out of the park with his class of 2028 as well. This is an impressive way to start, to say the least.
1. Britt ends 20-year drought
According to On3's Evan Flood, Britt is the first four-star linebacker commit for Wisconsin out of Florida since 2005. Britt currently plays for Bishop Moore, a critically acclaimed school in the greater Orlando, FL, area. He still has quite a bit of time to develop before coming to Madison, but it's great to see he racked up 118 tackles in his sophomore season.
2. Starting out of state is important
One of the biggest things regarding Wisconsin's class of 2027 is just how many in-state recruits they have. There's no doubt that will be a focal point in 2028 as well, but starting out of state proves just how serious recruits are now taking the Badgers, even with a pair of rough seasons where the team missed out on making a bowl game.
3. Defense remains a top priority
When looking at Wisconsin's class of 2027, the top-rated player is four-star defensive back Mekhi Williams. Oddly enough, he's also a Florida guy, one they managed to flip from Florida State. Regardless, the Badgers' identity has long been surrounded by having a strong defense, and Britt only furthers that case.
