Fans from around the world are gearing up for the FIFA World Cup final as Argentina and Spain prepare to face off Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

For those without tickets to the match, New York City is hosting one of its largest public watch parties on the Great Lawn in Central Park.

The free event will welcome up to 50,000 fans, with three giant video screens set up to broadcast the final. Registration was required, and tickets have already been claimed. The Central Park gathering is one of several watch parties taking place across the Tri-State area.

Both teams are staying in New Jersey ahead of the match. On Friday, team captains Lionel Messi of Argentina and Rodri of Spain appeared at Fanatics Fest at the Javits Center, building anticipation for Sunday's showdown. Argentina enters the final as the defending World Cup champion, while Spain will look to capture the title in what many consider a matchup between two of the world's top national teams.

The tournament has brought an influx of visitors from around the globe to the New York-New Jersey region, boosting excitement ahead of the championship match.

"I'm rooting for Argentina," one fan said.

Another fan backed Spain, saying, "Best team in the world is Spain and I think they're going to knock out the Argentinians."

President Donald Trump attended a FIFA reception Friday and is expected to be at MetLife Stadium for Sunday's final. More than 80,000 fans are expected inside the stadium, while tens of thousands more will gather at watch parties throughout the region.
