Florida State basketball remains firmly in the mix for one of the nation's premier prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Five-star shooting guard Jarvis Hayes Jr., the No. 22 overall prospect and No. 1 shooting guard in the 2027 class according to 247Sports, has trimmed his recruitment to four finalists: Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt.

The Seminoles have built momentum under first-year head coach Luke Loucks, who has made Hayes a priority on the recruiting trail. The 6-foot-5 standout from Woodward Academy in Atlanta recently discussed what separates each program as his recruitment enters its next phase. Hayes told 247Sports that the consistent communication from Loucks and the staff has stood out, along with the vision they have presented for his future.
"I like their style of play. I like how the coaches text me every day," Hayes said. "Luke Loucks called me today, and he sees me as a player who can get drafted. They keep me updated on what is going on with their school, and I feel like it is a family."
Hayes has already taken unofficial visits to Georgia and Vanderbilt and is scheduled to make an official visit to Florida State next month, giving the Seminoles an opportunity to further strengthen their position before a decision is made.
While Georgia carries personal significance with Hayes' father on staff and Georgia Tech benefits from its proximity to his hometown, Hayes emphasized that his recruitment remains open. He added that academics and style of play will ultimately be the biggest factors when choosing his college destination, and he has not established a timetable for announcing his commitment.
Landing Hayes would represent an early statement for Loucks and Florida State's recruiting efforts. Regarded as one of the elite perimeter prospects in the country, Hayes possesses a blend of size, length and shot-making ability that has made him one of the most coveted players in the 2027 class, with the Seminoles now one of four programs still in contention.
