Report: Nets' Michael Porter Jr. not wanted by Warriors last season

Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. was one of the main players that was embroiled in trade rumors last season as other teams were looking to bolster their rosters for the playoffs. Brooklyn ultimately did not trade Porter away and while he and the team could come to terms on a contract extension, there is more reporting to suggest that one team was not interested in Porter's services.

"Michael Porter Jr.? Sources say that Steve Kerr didn't want MPJ in February, and there is little reason to believe he would want him now," Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo! Sports wrote on Porter when discussing the Golden State Warriors. The entirety of O'Connor's article was focused on the NBA still awaiting LeBron James' free-agent decision with the Warriors potentially being one of the teams that James could consider.
As it pertains to Porter, Golden State was one of the teams that was rumored to be interested in him, but they also reportedly did not want to give up too much to help the roster make another playoff run. More to the point, Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports reported that the Nets wanted two first-round picks in a Porter trade, but the Warriors also had their eyes on players like New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III.
Porter, 28, is coming off the best season of his career as he's averaging 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 46.3% from the field and 36.3% from behind the three-point line. Based on the reports, Golden State wasn't the only team interested in Porter, but after O'Connor's reporting, it's possible that if Porter is ultimately traded at some point, it's unlikely that the Warriors would be one of the destinations.
With that being said, Porter is under contract for next season and as of now, he is a member of a Nets team that seems intent on keeping him in Brooklyn for the future. However, Porter and general manager Sean Marks seem like they will be more focused on keeping the partnership going as opposed to ending it, but if it does end, the Warriors seem to have taken themselves out of the running for prospective landing spots.
