Juan Soto is headed to the 10-day IL with a left calf strain, the same injury that kept him out for three weeks earlier this season. Eric Wagaman has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse with the corresponding move.

Soto left Friday night’s game with calf soreness and was replaced at DH by Jorge Polanco, as the 2026 Mets season continues to depress. Soto, an irreplaceable presence in the Mets lineup, was the lone All-Star for the club this season. Rejuvenated in the field and carrying a 163 wRC+, Soto can’t seem to shake problems with his calf. The left fielder has 15 RBIs and an OPS of .760 in 23 games played in July.

Wagaman has appeared in 28 games for the Mets this season, registering a 68 wRC+. He has DH’d and played the corner outfield spots as well as the corner infield spots.

Soto’s absence will make it easier for the Mets to audition possible trade pieces like Polanco and Luis Robert Jr. as the trade deadline quickly approaches.

The Mets play the Dodgers Saturday at 7:15 PM EDT on Fox. New York dropped the first game of the series 4-2, and now has to try to scrape out a win without their best bat.
