Owen Sound man on bail flees in truck, strikes police cruiser

City police arrested a 24-year-old Owen Sound man out on parole after a dangerous series of events on Sunday.

According to police, the male resisted officers attempting to arrest him while operating a pickup truck and allegedly breaching multiple release conditions at approximately 4:50 p.m.
The accused was out on bail and subject to several conditions, including being required to wear a GPS ankle monitor.
During the attempted arrest, police said the male started the pickup truck and fled the scene, striking a police cruiser in the process and narrowly missing officers.
GPS tracker deliberately discarded
According to police, the man then drove the truck onto a sidewalk where several pedestrians, including a young woman and a family with a child in a stroller, were forced to take evasive action to avoid being struck. No physical injuries were sustained.
As officers searched for the accused, police said they were notified that the electronic GPS monitoring device the accused was required to wear had been deliberately removed and discarded.
Police located the truck abandoned a short time later, and, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police, including K9 and aviation resources, the accused was located and arrested after attempting to break and enter into an occupied residence.
As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old Owen Sound man has been charged with numerous Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences.
The accused has been referred to the Intensive Serious Violent Crime Bail Program due to the serious risk he poses to the members of the community, police said.
