Champions League star hospitalized after being 'yanked out of car by armed gangsters'

A UEFA Champions League soccer star competing in Belgium's top flight was hospitalized after being targeted by a masked gang during a violent robbery.

Union Saint-Gilloise winger Mohammed Fuseini was dragged from his vehicle in Brussels on Sunday morning (July 26), with disturbing footage of the assault spreading across social media. The 24-year-old Ghanaian international, who missed out on his country's FIFA World Cup roster, is seen being seized by a masked gang, reportedly armed, and placed in a headlock.

Local outlet Het Laatste Nieuws (HLN) reported that Fuseini had a Rolex valued at up to €14,000 (roughly $16,000) stolen. Video footage also captured the group attempting to steal Fuseini's phone as he fought back. However, he was ultimately overpowered by the five-person gang, as per The Mirror US.

The attackers eventually released him before fleeing the scene. Clips of the assault have since gone viral online, particularly in his home country of Ghana.

The harrowing incident was allegedly recorded by an unidentified teammate of Fuseini, who was subsequently taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

His club, Union SG, released a statement updating supporters on Fuseini's condition following the brazen daylight robbery. They said: "The images from last Sunday are particularly harrowing.

"He subsequently went to the hospital for a check-up and received excellent care there from the Brussels police, whom we sincerely thank for their outstanding work.

"The injuries are not serious, and he resumed training yesterday."

The public prosecutor's office has also weighed in on the matter, confirming that three individuals were targeted in a robbery carried out by the group.

In an official statement, authorities revealed that multiple people had allegedly been assaulted, with stolen items including watches, phones, and other personal possessions subsequently recovered.

A suspect, reported to be 23 years old, has since been identified and placed in custody.
