Eric Bieniemy’s wife, Mia, is no longer in the ICU after being shot, according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
Reid, 68, shared an update on Mia — who was allegedly shot by her son, Elijah — while speaking to reporters at Chiefs training camp on Wednesday, July 29. “Update on Mia Bieniemy, she’s doing great. She’s doing better and great from where she was,” Reid shared.

He said she’s “out of the ICU unit and making progress, so we’re happy about that.”
Eric, 56, “is still with her,” Reid said, adding, “and that part’s important that that stays in place.”

Mia, 57, was shot at the Virginia home she shares with Eric, the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, on Sunday, July 26, and hospitalized, according to ESPN sources.
Per the outlet, Eric was reportedly in Missouri as the Chiefs began training camp when the incident occurred.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Elijah, 27, was arrested and charged with three felonies — use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, malicious wounding and discharging a firearm within a building. A preliminary hearing is set for Monday, Aug. 31.
Reid addressed the news one day later, telling reporters, “Our hearts to go out to Eric Bieniemy,” after training camp practice on Monday, July 27. “Mia is stable, which is a plus. We all love EB and you hate seeing those things happen. Real life. You take care of that. She’s a saint, one of God’s good blessings. But things happen.”
Eric, who rejoined the Chiefs this offseason after a three-season hiatus, is a beloved member of the organization. In March, tight end Travis Kelce even credited him as one of the reasons he decided to return this season.
“I still love going to work, putting on the pads, grinding it out and just playing the game, you know, and I think my best opportunity was playing for the Chiefs yet again and running this thing back with Pat Mahomes and Coach Reid. And got my guy Eric Bieniemy, Coach Bieniemy back, and there’s a lot of pieces in Kansas City that I just absolutely love and I can’t wait to get back in the building with,” Kelce said on The Pat McAfee Show in March.
