Official: Bayern Munich signs U-19 talent Konstantinos Karandrikas

Aside from signing RB Salzburg jewel Matteo Maric on a high profile free transfer, Bayern Munich’s U-19s had made no external transfers for the majority of the summer transfer window. Towards the end of the window and near the start of the new season, however, the Bavarians have added two new faces. One was goalkeeper Jae-Won Heo and the other is Greek CB Konstantinos Karandrikas.

Shortly before the first competitive match of the 2026/27 season, FC Bayern’s U19 team has added a new central defender in Konstantinos Karandrikas. The 17-year-old Greek player transfers from Atromitos Athens to the campus and has signed a long-term contract. He will play for the German record champions’ U19 team in the future.
Michael Wiesinger , Head of Sport and Youth Development: “Our scouts have been observing Konstantinos for an extended period. He is an athletic center-back with good build-up play who will strengthen our U19 squad. We are delighted to have signed him for our youth academy, are convinced of his potential, and are excited to see his next steps with us.”
Karandrikas, born in Peristeri, found his way to Atromitos Athens via Heraklis Peristeri. The right-footed player most recently played for the U17 team at the Greek capital club and is now taking the next step in his career with his move to the Bavarian capital.
Other center backs such as Filip Pavić skipped the U-19s entirely, leading to a need for reinforcements in that position. Given Karandrikas also started the first match of the season, less than a week after signing for the Bavarians, suggests the signing was very necessary. The question now is if the center back has any significant potential or if he was merely signed to fill the hole in the squad. As with many things, the answer to that question lies in the season to come.
