Released Orlando Pirates striker joins Moroccan champions

Mabasa completed a move to Moroccan giants Maghreb de Fès. The 29-year-old striker has signed a multi-year contract with the reigning Botola Pro League champions after leaving the Buccaneers as a free agent.
MABASA EMBRACES NEW CHALLENGE AFTER ORLANDO PIRATES
The move sees Mabasa become the first South African player to represent the Fès-based club. He will now lead the line as Maghreb de Fès prepare for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League campaign.
Mabasa, affectionately known as “Sniper,” was attracting interest from several clubs before choosing the move to Morocco. He had previously been linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Egyptian side Pyramids FC.
According to reports, Mabasa completed his medical assessments in Morocco before finalising the deal on Monday. The forward also bid an emotional farewell to Orlando Pirates, thanking the club, his teammates and staff after spending eight years with the Buccaneers.
His move marks the beginning of a new chapter as he looks to test himself in North African football and compete for both domestic and continental honours.
LEAVES STRONG LEGACY
Mabasa began his professional career at Bloemfontein Celtic before joining Orlando Pirates in 2019. He went on to score 50 goals in 141 appearances for the Soweto giants, helping the club lift three MTN8 trophies.
During his time in Soweto, he also enjoyed productive loan spells at Sekhukhune United, Swallows FC and Stellenbosch FC, proving his consistency wherever he played.
Across his Premier Soccer League career, Mabasa scored 74 goals in 249 appearances, establishing himself as one of South Africa’s most reliable goalscorers.
With his move now complete, Mabasa will be hoping to continue that form at Maghreb de Fès as the Moroccan champions chase more silverware and prepare for another CAF Champions League campaign.
