There have been few better NFL offensive tackles in recent seasons than Chicago's Darnell Wright – and now, he's getting paid quite handsomely for that effort.

Wright and the Bears reportedly reached an agreement on a contract extension on Tuesday, with Wright putting ink to a deal that will pay him $116 million over four additional years.

The extension also guarantees $93 million to Wright. That $29 million per year deal rewrites NFL history books in more than one way: it marks the largest-ever contract for a right tackle in league history, as well as the most guaranteed money for an offensive lineman.

Wright was selected as the tenth overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft after earning All-SEC honors at Tennessee. He started all 17 games as a rookie and has started 49 games over the course of his three seasons in the league, allowing just 16 sacks on 3,229 snaps.

Last year, he proved his worth as a team leader and one of the top offensive linemen in the NFL. As the only returning starting lineman from the previous season, Wright was an anchor for head coach Ben Johnson in his debut year – he led an effort that saw the Bears reduce their sacks allowed by 44 and record one of the top-ranked rushing offenses in the league. He allowed just three sacks himself and was named a second-team All-Pro despite playing on a torn UCL.
