Life on the fringes of an NFL roster is hard. One former Iowa football player found that out on Tuesday.

Luke Lachey was released by the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday. The former Hawkeye was cut due to an injury, as he's dealing with ankle/foot ailments. He left practice early on Monday, was in a boot, and was cut the following day. The Packers opted to sign another tight end in his place, leaving Lachey in search of a new NFL home.
The Packers waived/injured Luke Lachey and RJ Maryland to make room for McCallan Castles and Drew Biber. Lachey dropped out of practice Monday and was confined to a walking boot, and Maryland has missed consecutive practices with a hamstring injury.

For a player with no set role on a roster, availability is the best ability. Unfortunately for Lachey, he became unavailable and, in the Packers' view, expendable. Injuries hampered him late in his Iowa career and during his time in Houston. They've now popped up again.
Talent isn't the issue for Lachey. He showed off an NFL skill set at times in Iowa City. His injuries are the big concern at the moment. They could keep him off NFL rosters for good if they're not addressed. With preseason games just around the corner, the time is now for Lachey to land somewhere and make his mark.
