SIU probing fatal shooting involving Toronto Police in Mississauga

One person is dead after being shot by Toronto Police in Mississauga early Thursday.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has confirmed the incident in the area of Council Ring Road and The Collegeway was fatal. The SIU will be providing an update around 9:30 a.m.
Peel Regional Police posted on X that officers from Toronto had been “conducting an investigation” around 12:20 a.m. when the shooting occurred.
The male, whose age was not released, received life-threatening injuries and did not survive.
Another male was taken to hospital with minor injuries, and a Toronto Police officer was also “transported to hospital with minor injuries as a result of a collision.”
Three people were taken into custody, and police said no other suspects were outstanding.
Police did not say what type of investigation led to the interaction.
There is a heavy police presence in the area and the scene will remain closed for several hours. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is called in to investigate the conduct of police in cases involving death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
