Former Falcons linebacker signing with New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are signing former Falcons linebacker Deion Jones, according to a report from ESPN insider Adam Schefter. Jones, 31, spent his first six NFL seasons in Atlanta (2016-2021) and made the Pro Bowl in 2017.

The former second-round pick's career was hindered by injuries, but Jones was a dynamic inside linebacker for the Falcons early in his career. Atlanta made the Super Bowl in Jones' rookie season and won a playoff game in his sophomore campaign.

Jones racked up 652 tackles (428 solo), 11 interceptions, 8.5 sacks and 44 passes defended over six seasons before signing with the Cleveland Browns in 2022.

According to Schefter, Jones is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Saints. Once he does so, the former LSU standout will have officially played for all four NFC South teams.

"The Saints are signing veteran linebacker Deion Jones to a one-year deal," Schefter reported. "Jones now will have played for every team in the NFC South, but this might be the most meaningful. Jones was born in New Orleans, grew up there, and played high school football there before attending LSU."

The Falcons lost another former starting inside linebacker to the Saints in free agency. Veteran Kaden Elliss signed a three-year, $33 million contract to return to New Orleans, where he began his career as a seventh-round pick.

The two former Falcons will face off against their former team on Monday Night Football in Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season. Get your popcorn ready.
