The Red Devils kick off their 2026/2027 on Saturday, August 22 in the 12.30pm kick-off and, according to Manchester Evening News’ Steven Railston, the Slovenian is in line to make the squad.
Benjamin Sesko is still on track to be fit for the start of the season, so there’s no reason to panic. The striker has been stepping up his rehabilitation at Carrington #mufc
What happened to Benjamin Sesko?
Sesko has been ruled out of all of United’s pre-season friendlies thus far due to a shin injury that was re-aggravated when he was barged off the pitch by Ibrahima Konate in last term’s home win over Liverpool.
The 23-year-old was hooked at the interval and replaced by Amad Diallo. Little did he – or fans – know that Sesko would not feature again in the remaining three matches.
It meant he was unable to continue his scintillating run of form or add to his goal tally for his maiden campaign, so he ended 2025/2026 with 11 top-flight goals to his name in 30 appearances, which is still a hugely impressive feat for his first year in England.
Sesko closing in on long-awaited return
Throughout the campaign, he was battling to secure a starting spot amid fierce competition from the likes of Amad, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
He still managed to pop up with some crucial contributions, though, and returned seven goals in just 595 minutes played during Michael Carrick’s reign.
Sesko’s record under Carrick
His nation missing out on a World Cup spot did allow Sesko to spend the summer resting and not rushing to get fit or return prematurely, so there’s no doubt he’ll be chomping at the bit to get back out on the pitch in a competitive clash, having last featured on May 3.
Remarkably, reports this week have suggested that Bayern Munich have identified Sesko as their ideal long-term successor to world-class frontman Harry Kane.
