Talented QB Sam Sollie grew up an Auburn fan, now he is the Tigers’ first 2028 commitment

Gadsden City (Ala.) High quarterback Sam Sollie announced his commitment to Auburn on Saturday, choosing to play for head coach Alex Golesh and the Tigers over his other top schools in Alabama, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
The 6-foot-3 1/2, 185-pound Sollie becomes commit No. 1 for Auburn in the 2028 cycle. He blew away Golesh and the staff during camp in the summer and now they have him in the fold.

Sollie is a little awestruck himself.
“Auburn is extra special to me, especially growing up an Auburn fan,” Sollie said. “Being a little kid, watching Auburn games, watching guys go out on the field, I looked at them like celebrities.
“I loved the coaching staff as well. I loved the campus. For me, it was also where would I want to go to school if football wasn’t there and Auburn was a big part of that.”
Sollie has been a silent commit to Auburn for awhile, going public with his plans surrounded by family, friends and coaches.
“It definitely fires me up. I’m the first 28 guy. I think Alex Golesh is doing a really good job with 27 recruiting and what he did at South Florida, I think he’s going to do a great job at Auburn and fit in great.”
Florida and Kentucky also offered Sollie who believes Auburn has the staff to get the best out of him.
“This coaching staff develops quarterbacks really well,” Sollie said. “Back when Coach (Joel) Gordon at Iowa State coaching Brock Purdy and Byrum Brown at USF. Coach Golesh at Tennessee coached up Hendon Hooker. Looking at all these quarterbacks I think they can develop well and I’m looking forward to what they can do with me.”
Sollie has evolved into a strong armed passer with plus athleticism at the position. He took over as the starter as a sophomore and less than a year later he’s now committed to Auburn.
“I think just looking back at all the hard work put in and looking back being a little kid and an Auburn fan, it is a dream come true.”
