Despite the moment being a generational accomplishment, Brunson is already looking at what the future holds with the 2026-27 season over two months away.
Jalen Brunson explains when he knew the celebrations needed to end
Brunson appeared on the ‘Things No One Tells You’ podcast and explained how he knew for sure that he’s over the 2026 title and focused on what comes next after undergoing hand surgery after the Finals.
“You have to find your own way to flip the switch and figure out what’s next… I’m there; I’ve been there for a while… I’ll truly say, when I had surgery was when it clicked for me that it’s time to move on.”
“It probably was before, but when you’re still trying to accomplish more, the quicker you can move on, the quicker you can continue to get better and not be satisfied.”
Brunson averaged 28.4 points and 6.1 assists in the 2026 Playoffs, averaging 32.6 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.2 rebounds in the NBA Finals with an injured hand, winning Finals MVP.
Jalen Brunson and the Knicks have a tough season ahead
Brunson has the perfect attitude, considering what lies ahead might be among the toughest seasons of his time on the Knicks.
The Eastern Conference might be at its most competitive in years, with several contenders looking to take the Knicks’ crown.

This isn’t even including the 2025 NBA Finalists, the Indiana Pacers, welcoming Tyrese Haliburton back after a season out with injury, the Boston Celtics with Jayson Tatum and Paul George, the reigning No. 1 seed Detroit Pistons, and the reigning Conference Finalists Cleveland Cavaliers.
Even teams like the Atlanta Hawks, Orlando Magic, and the Washington Wizards might pack a heavier punch this year, so Brunson’s attitude is exactly what the Knicks need if they want to defend their title.
