Gehlen Catholic leaned heavily on the run game, led by running back Wyatt Konz with 189 carries for 1,120 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Jays' compiled a 9-to-1 run-to-pass ratio last season, carrying the ball 369 times compared to just 41 completed passes.
The team looks to build on their success through the run while adding more elements to their game.
"We're trying to keep developing in practice, get to where we want to be for week one. We haven't been good week one since I've been here. That's what we're trying to do," Konz said.
"The past couple of years, we've had that second round playoff exit, and we obviously want to continue on and take that next step, be a quarterfinal and then be a semifinalist," Gehlen Catholic head coach Jeremy Schindler added. "That's just that extra effort in practice is what we need and obviously, like Wyatt said, starting off the season right."
The Jays kick off the season at Hinton on August 28th.
