Barcelona gem Marc Bernal looking forward to playing with Rodri: ‘He’s a leader, a gem of a player’

Barcelona’s midfield was quite comfortably stacked ahead of the new season, both in terms of experienced campaigners and young talents. In the latter category, Marc Bernal has been seen as one of the top prospects.

The youngster has been likened to Sergio Busquets on numerous occasions for his style of play and has been seen as the future of Barcelona’s midfield plans for a long time now.
The club, however, have done one better and gone on to sign Rodri – the one player who has come the closest to replicating Busquets’ greatness for Spain – thereby presenting Bernal with a unique chance.
Sharing the dressing room with one of the modern greats and best players in the world in his position, the La Masia graduate has a special chance to further his progression at a rapid rate.
Bernal speaks on Rodri
During a recent interview, Bernal was asked what he made of Rodri’s arrival at Barcelona and whether he saw it as an opportunity to learn or a threat to his place.

The player simply began by praising the former Manchester City star for his quality, saying (h/t Mundo Deportivo):
“He’s a leader, a gem of a player.”
The youngster then remembered his interaction with Rodri just over a month ago in the Spanish camp, before the FIFA World Cup officially began.
“I was lucky enough to be with him a week ago and he is an example, both on and off the field, because of how professional he is,” he said.
Finally, he spoke on how he looked forward to playing alongside Rodri and learning from his experience.
“He is a player who is a leader, especially for us, who were perhaps more lost, he guided us. He is a Ballon d’Or, captain of the national team and being important, he is a gem of player.”

The new Barcelona signing spoke on a plethora of topics during his contract signing at Barcelona yesterday.
During the same interaction, he made a massive admission that the surgery he recently underwent was nothing major and that he would return to training very soon.
True to his word, the player has already completed his first training session as a Barcelona player as of earlier today and will be a part of the Joan Gamper festivities later in the day. His participation in the game, however, remains doubtful.
