However, Harold Landry III’s return from injury remains a variable and K’Lavon Chaisson’s departure has left the perimeter rotation thinner than ideal. Relying on schematic creativity alone to manufacture pressure against the AFC’s elite quarterbacks is a dangerous proposition. There is one final move that could fix that problem before the games start counting.

The ultimate target: Kayvon Thibodeaux

If New England is serious about maximizing its championship window, the final piece should be Kayvon Thibodeaux. The New York Giants’ defensive reshuffling could potentially make the talented edge rusher attainable for the right price. The Patriots should be willing to pay it.

Thibodeaux possesses precisely the kind of explosive athletic profile New England’s defense needs. His first-step burst can threaten offensive tackles immediately. His flexibility and closing speed allow him to turn pressure into sacks once quarterbacks begin escaping the pocket. At 25, he also fits the timeline of this Patriots roster.

New England does not need another aging veteran who can provide a handful of useful snaps before becoming a liability. It needs a defensive cornerstone who can grow alongside the rest of the roster. Thibodeaux offers that possibility.

Waiting until the trade deadline carries its own risks. By then, injuries could have changed the Patriots’ needs, while the Giants could have less incentive to move a productive defender. The price may rise if multiple contenders become desperate for pass-rush help. New England has the luxury of acting before that happens.
