Will Anthony Richardson remain with Colts? What the QB had to say

Anthony Richardson's trade request remains on the table. However, the Indianapolis Colts don't seem all that willing to trade him.

Recently, assistant GM Ed Dodds was asked about the thought process behind keeping Richardson vs. trading him. For Dodds, the answer to that question is simple, saying it's about putting the team first.

“We want to have three (QBs) that can play," Dodds said, via The Athletic's James Boyd. "So, if he’s one of them, he’s gonna be here.”

Following the Colts' preseason matchup with Atlanta, Richardson was asked about Dodd's comments and if he expects to remain with the team this season.

“Just looking forward to help the team," Richardson said. "If they truly believe that I still have a chance to be on this squad, then I’d love that. I just want to be able to contribute, put my best foot forward, and help the team win."

Richardson is competing with Riley Leonard for the backup quarterback role and does seem to be in a position to win that job, thus potentially putting him in a position to help the team if he were ever called on.

Neither quarterback performed all that well against Atlanta, but Richardson did have the better showing in New England, and his ability to extend plays adds a different element to the Colts' offense when he's in the game.

Shane Steichen said earlier this week that he doesn't have a timetable when it comes to making a decision on who the backup will be.

The Colts have one preseason game against Detroit remaining.
