ESPN has released its 2026-27 rookie impact projections, offering a look at where forward Cameron Boozer and the Memphis Grizzlies' rookies rank among the league's incoming talent.
The 2026-27 NBA season is eight weeks and five days away, and expectations are already building around this year's rookie class. For Memphis, the upcoming season will mark the beginning of a new era after the Grizzlies traded guard Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers.

With the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, Memphis selected Boozer, a forward from Duke. On Aug. 18, ESPN insiders discussed potential rookie outcomes for the upcoming season, with Boozer appearing on multiple lists.
Boozer Tied For Best Rookie Situation
Although Boozer was selected with the No. 3 overall pick, he did not lead ESPN's voting for the fastest path to superstardom or the highest long-term ceiling. However, ESPN's Tim MacMahon believes the young forward will have an opportunity to grow as a playmaker with Memphis.
The Duke product tied for the most votes for which rookie landed in the best situation. Boozer received three votes, along with forward Morez Johnson Jr. with three. Center Aday Mara received two votes, while forward AJ Dybantsa received one.
ESPN views Boozer as the face of a full rebuild after Memphis traded Morant during the offseason. The Grizzlies will be able to run their offense through Boozer immediately and give him significant opportunities to develop his playmaking.
The franchise also selected forward Karim López with the No. 21 overall pick and guard Richie Saunders with the No. 32 pick.
Boozer Takes Center Stage In New Grizzlies Era
This season will mark the second full season of head coach Tuomas Iisalo at the helm. His overall coaching record with Memphis is 29-62.
As the organization rebuilds, he will have another season to implement his basketball philosophy, culture and beliefs with a young roster.
The Grizzlies have been projected to finish 31-51 this season. Their progress will depend heavily on contributions from their young players and center Zach Edey taking another step while remaining healthy.
Even though the Grizzlies are rebuilding, expectations this season will center on youth development, physical toughness and growing pains under Iisalo.
The team's front office has emphasized the importance of building a physically and mentally tough identity with positional versatility.
On Oct. 21, Memphis will host the Utah Jazz, welcoming back former forward Jaren Jackson Jr., who was traded in February 2026. The matchup will mark the beginning of the Boozer era in Memphis.
Despite being in a rebuild, the expected starting lineup could feature guard Ty Jerome, guard Jaylen Wells, forward Cedric Coward, Boozer and center Edey.
