Ethan Burke believes joint practices fueled Ravens' strong performance
· Yahoo Sports
The Baltimore Ravens spent much of last week talking about how valuable their joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings would be, and how they were right about their hunch as they moved along. From veterans to younger players fighting for roster spots, that message remained consistent.
The Vikings' offense and defense provided a level of competition that would be difficult to replicate on a normal training camp day. Outside linebacker Ethan Burke believes that preparation showed up when the teams met again on Saturday.

The rookie pass rusher needed a solid showing, and with some extra opportunities, he provided an impressive performance. That helped Baltimore secure its second preseason victory as he added a sack, two QB hits, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble. After the game, he spoke with media members and was asked about the defense's strong outing and whether the work earlier in the week contributed to what happened on game day.
As can be expected from any Raven, his answer was straightforward.
"I think we just continued to improve throughout the week. [We] faced [the Minnesota Vikings] twice in practice [and] had a better idea of what we were going up against this week. We just continued to go out and execute today and come out of there with a win."
Burke's response echoed a theme that surfaced repeatedly throughout the Ravens' visit to Minnesota. Players consistently described the joint practices as opportunities to learn, adjust, and identify areas for improvement before the preseason matchup. For younger players in particular, the additional exposure can be invaluable.
Ethan Burke saw the benefits of extra preparation.
Joint practices provide a rare opportunity to see an opponent's tendencies before game day, allowing players to experience different schemes, personnel groupings, and coaching philosophies. Burke suggested that familiarity helped Baltimore play faster when the teams met on the field.
The rookie's own performance reflected that comfort level. Burke has been one of the Ravens' most pleasant surprises this summer, consistently finding ways to impact games despite entering camp as an undrafted free agent. While his production has attracted attention, his post-game comments revealed a player more focused on development than on statistics.
"My goal is just to continue doing what I'm doing, keep getting better, just [keep] having fun and enjoying celebrating with my teammates and whatnot... I think it's been great for us to get our feet wet, dive on top of the opportunity and take advantage of these reps that we're getting now so [that] we're ready when the real thing comes along."
That mindset has helped Burke take advantage of whatever increased opportunities he has been given throughout training camp and the preseason. With several veteran defensive linemen and edge rushers managing injuries or workloads, younger players have received extensive snaps.
Burke believes those reps are preparing the entire group for bigger responsibilities down the road. The Ravens have consistently described joint practices as an extension of their development process rather than simply a preseason obligation. Burke's comments offered another example of why.
Baltimore didn't leave Minnesota talking about winning practice periods or keeping score. The focus was on improvement. By the time Saturday's game arrived, Burke believed the defense had already spent two days learning what it would face.
When the ball was finally kicked off, the rookie felt that preparation mattered. The Ravens had already seen the challenge. All that remained was proving they had learned from it.
