Several large potholes had developed along the main road passing through Lalthane village. During the monsoon, rainwater accumulated in the potholes, making them difficult for motorists to identify and increasing the risk of accidents. Instead of waiting for repairs, local women took matters into their own hands and carried out voluntary labour work to temporarily fill the potholes.
The initiative drew appreciation from residents in the surrounding area and also brought the condition of the road to the attention of the authorities.
Following the report, the Public Works Department (PWD) inspected the road and initiated pothole-filling work. Gravel and bituminous material are now being used to repair the damaged portions, providing much-needed relief to residents and commuters.
While residents have welcomed the immediate action, they have urged the PWD to undertake a comprehensive and permanent repair of the Tandulwadi-Chahade road, including strengthening of the damaged stretch, rather than limiting the work to temporary pothole repairs.
