On the Quarterbacks
Campbell said Manske has earned playing time. Manske made a positive impact last season. Campbell plans to find game situations to use him each week.
Campbell praised Becht for being himself, rather than copying other quarterbacks. He said: “Rocco is never trying to be anybody else.” Campbell said this quality helps Becht handle high-pressure moments well. Campbell also praised Becht’s growth as a leader and a person over the last seven months.
On the offensive line
Campbell named the team’s five starters officially, and they are Malachi Goodman, Trevor Buhr, Brock Riker, Cooper Cousins, and Anthony Donkoh. Not a surprise here, but knowing it’s official is still a good thing. The depth pieces, as follows: Owen Aliciene, Garrett Sexton, Dom Rulli, and Vaea Ikakoula, the former two healthy after dealing with offseason injuries as well.
On emotions
When answering a question about how he was overcome with emotion when entering an empty Beaver Stadium when he was hired, Campbell made no qualms about admitting he wears his emotions on his sleeve, and preemptively apologized for the likelihood of once again being overcome with emotion before the Marshall game, when the stadium would be full.
On learning
Campbell wants to see how the team handles a new staff and new environment. He said Marshall has a strong team and coaching staff. He said first games are always hard, no matter how experienced a coach is.
On special teams
Punter Nathan Tiyce played well at the end of camp. Kickers Ryan Barker and Blaise Sokach-Minnick both have game experience. Koby Howard and Zay Robinson are the top return players. Brett Eskildsen, Audavion Collins, and Zion Tracy are the top coverage players.

*Let’s hope the anger translator doesn’t have to show up this season, but something tells me, given his preemptive apology, we’re going to bring this one out at some point.
**“Former institution” transcends head coaches.
