Bethesda reflects on ‘statement’ win over Savannah Christian during open week

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Bethesda Blazers do not have a football game this week, which gives them extra time to reflect on their 'statement' win over a GHSA opponent.

Bethesda defeated Savannah Christian, 32-28, last Friday when Bethesda quarterback Jordan Turner threw a touchdown pass with 26 seconds remaining in the contest.
"I mean, it's a great win for our program," senior offensive and defensive lineman Steven Mitchell said. "I mean, it sends a statement out to those who believe that when we don't play enough competition or play weak competition. So it just sends out a message for all those out there who believe that we're not good enough, that we can't compete with them. So it's definitely a message for us and to them."
The win marked the first time Bethesda played a GHSA opponent in the program's 21-year history.
SCISA, which is the association where Bethesda competes, has a reputation of being weaker than the GHSA.
Future games against GHSA competition may be difficult for Bethesda, since the GHSA switched the PSR rankings, which does not treat out-of-state wins the same as in-state.
Bethesda is 3-0 on the year with wins against Northwood Academy, the reigning SCISA Class 4A champion, and Federica Academy to open the season.
The next time Bethesda takes the field is Sept. 11 at home against Trinity Collegiate.
