Michigan State football takes down Toledo to start season with a win
· Yahoo Sports
On Friday night, Michigan State football kicked off their season with a home game against Toledo. It wasn't always pretty, but the Spartans were able to leave their first game of the season with a win, taking down the Rockets 30-20.
Funny enough, going into this game, I predicted MSU would win by ten points, and that's exactly how things played out, however, I think how this game played out will probably leave some fans with mixed feelings. The Spartans gave up two different 60-plus yard touchdowns and Alessio Milivojevic was sacked three times as the pass rush struggled throughout the night.

On the bright side, Milivojevic was accurate and protected the ball, completed 26 of 34 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown. Cam Edwards was also impressive in the first half and finished with 98 yards and a touchdown. Another thing I will say about this game is that the Spartans kicking six field goals made this game look a lot closer than it should have been. Give credit to Toledo for locking down in the red zone, but MSU needs to execute better in the red zone moving forward. If they are able to punch in just one or two more of those possessions that ended in a field goal, this game looks a lot different.
As I said, I think some Spartan fans will probably leave this game frustrated, and I get that, but I do think a ten point win over this Toledo team was about where the expectation was. Next week's game against Eastern Michigan should be much more one-sided, as Eastern Michigan just lost to lowly San Jose State tonight.
