Pirates struggle on the road, drop season opener to Crimson Tide 48-10

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WNCT) -- Alabama ran for 227 yards and five touchdowns as a team, and Yhonzae Pierre returned an interception for a touchdown off Mitch Griffis as the Crimson Tide rolls through ECU, 48-10.

The Pirates struggled on offense, totaling just 162 total yards, with just two yards on the ground.
"We talked earlier in the week about things we got do to do to win a football game, and that was run the football and stop the run," Pirate head coach Blake Harrell said. "And we certainly didn't do those things,"
After falling behind 17-0, ECU was able to answer with a 68-yard catch by Tyler Johnson, followed by a quick pass to Jeremiah Melvin from Griffis to help cut the deficit to 10.
However, The Crimson Tide would go into the locker room up 38-7 after the pick-six and a pair of touchdown runs from Daniel Hill and Keelon Russell.
"We didn't tackle very well on defense," Pirate linebacker Crews Law said. "I think that there's a lot of stuff that we can build on, I mean, some of that stuff happens first games."
The Pirates are home next week hosting in-state rival Appalachian State.
