Eagles tennis drops close 4-5 match to Ozark

The Joplin girls' tennis team kicked off a busy week with a 4-5 loss to Ozark Tuesday at JHS.
Joplin logged two wins in the doubles competition and two wins in singles.

In No. 1 doubles, Joplin’s Pearl Gaines and Louisa Curchin outlasted Ozarks' Sarabellah Weathers and Finley Street 9-8. Joplin’s No. 3 duo of Maggie Tyrrell and Ella Pagan posted an 8-3 win over Ozark’s Mollee Shuck and Alaina Horton.
Gaines topped Weathers 8-5 in No. 1 singles and Curchin logged an 8-4 win over Street in their No. 2 match.
Joplin head coach Ben Coltharp said there are plenty of positives to take out of the match.
“I was pleased with how well the team played today,” Coltharp said. “Ozark is always a tough matchup, including today, and our girls showed up and barely lost. This is great momentum for our next match.”
The Eagles were scheduled to play Lebanon in Springfield Wednesday. Results were not available at press time. Joplin concludes its week at 4:30 p.m. Thursday when the Eagles host Willard.
