The New England Patriots waived the defensive tackle from injured reserve with a settlement on Wednesday, according to the NFL transaction wire. He will become a street free agent after going unclaimed.
Iton, 25, had been waived by in Foxborough with an injury designation at the 53-man roster deadline in August. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive lineman subsequently reverted to season-ending injured reserve as the practice squad began to form last week.
Originally entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2024, Iton spent his rookie year on the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans and was briefly retained on a futures contract. From there, the former transfer from Northern Colorado, Hutchinson Community College, Ole Miss and Rutgers attended rookie minicamp at Gillette Stadium as a second-year tryout. A deal followed. Yet so did a 2025 campaign on injured reserve.
After not being tendered as an exclusive rights free agent in March, Iton ultimately circled back to the Patriots heading into training camp in July. He handled five tackles and one quarterback hurry in preseason action last month, staying in for 77 defensive snaps.
With a settlement now reached, six players remain on injured reserve for the reigning AFC champions.
The group includes running back Myles Montgomery, tight end Julian Hill and wide receiver Jeremiah Webb, while offensive tackle Marcus Bryant, linebacker Khalil Jacobs and punter Bryce Baringer are all eligible for activation after missing four games.
The Seattle Seahawks host Wednesday’s season opener at Lumen Field. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET.
