Independence Bowl announces new date for kickoff dinner featuring Tyrann Mathieu

SHREVEPORT, LA (KTAL/KMSS) – The annual Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl kickoff dinner, previously scheduled for August 17, has set a new date.
The dinner is now set for Tuesday, September 29 beginning at 6:15 pm.

The kickoff dinner features former LSU and NFL star corner, Tyrann Mathieu. Mathieu was a member of the LSU football team from 2010-2011, playing all 13 games of his true freshman season, finishing the season with 57 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions. He capped off his freshman season winning Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the 2011 Cotton Bowl.
Mathieu continued his dominance his sophomore season, racking up 77 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. He was named MVP of the 2011 SEC Championship game, finishing fifth in Heisman voting, and winning the Chuck Bednarik Award, given to the year's best defensive player.
He declared for the NFL draft in November of 2012, where the Arizona Cardinals selected him in the third round. Mathieu was with the Cardinals until his release in 2018, then signing a one-year contract with the Texans.
Mathieu was with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2019-2021, earning his only Super Bowl ring in the 2020 game against San Francisco.
In May of 2022, Mathieu returned to his hometown, where he went on to finish his career, announcing his retirement in July of 2025.
The doors will open for the dinner at 6 pm at the Shreveport Convention Center, with dinner available starting at 6:15. The Q&A section will begin at 7 pm. Mathieu will be interviewed by a representative of the Independence Bowl's choosing, with submitted fan questions to wrap up the evening. To submit questions, email them to [email protected].
Tickets are available for $75, or $600 per table. Any tickets purchased for the original date will be valid for the rescheduled events.
