The San Francisco 49ers delivered a dominant performance in Week 1. San Francisco won a huge divisional matchup against LA, crushing them 27-7 in Australia. One 49ers coach was willing to admit that the transition back to a normal schedule was quite challenging for the team.

Shanahan admitted that he “felt like crap” throughout the entire weekend after playing in Australia in Week 1, per Matt Barrows and Vic Tafur of The Athletic.

“It took a couple of days,” Shanahan said. “I think I was good by Monday.”

He also explained how the team approached practices with its players after the long international trip. San Francisco had players do a light workout on Monday afternoon, then gave them a day off on Tuesday. Shanahan claimed that the team largely seemed to have adjusted to their normal time zone by Wednesday. He made it clear that San Francisco’s start to the season was the complete opposite of normal.

Shanahan also noted that some players felt good immediately after returning from Australia, while some needed more times. There were even players that needed a lot more time than usual to get back to 100%

“We had a few days to recover — players really got five (days off) total — and now it’s really Day 1 of the week for us,” Shanahan said.

But the 49ers did not return from Australia completely unscathed. Rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling suffered an ankle sprain that will require surgery. Stribling is expected to miss roughly 10 weeks, putting a huge dent in his rookie season.

Fortunately, the 49ers have a pretty easy matchup in their next game.

San Francisco hosts Miami for a Week 2 showdown. That contest kicks off at 4:25PM ET on September 20th from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
