Cincinnati (2-0) vs Miami University (1-1) is one of college football’s best rivalries. The battle for the Victory Bell goes back to 1888.
The Bearcats got the start they needed with two easy wins, starting with a 34-15 performance against Boston College. But the Big 12 season is about to drop like a hammer on their heads. They can’t afford to start the conference campaign at anything less than 3-0.
Miami University got destroyed by Pitt 59-14, beat up Holy Cross, and has to take its offensive game to another level to pull this off.

Why Miami University Will Win
The RedHawks aren’t screwing up. They might be a bit too careful at times, but they only have one turnover so far, and they cleaned up the penalties after getting flagged nine times against Pitt.
They have to use the midrange passing game to get and keep control from the start. It might have only been an easy game against Holy Cross, but freshman David McComb hit all 13 of his passes, connected on a few deep shots, and now has to keep the chains moving.
Why Cincinnati Will Win
Cincinnati isn’t screwing up, either. Okay, penalties are a bit of an issue, but it hasn’t turned the ball over yet. As long as the Bearcats can get hot throwing early on without making any big mistakes, they’ll be okay.
Georgia Southern transfer quarterback JC French has been a find, completing 82% of his throws, doing a great job making the right reads, being careful, and keeping the chains moving.
Pitt’s Mason Heintschel threw for 453 yards and seven scores against the RedHawks. French likely won’t do anything close to that, but he should be sharp.
