Pedro Porro Boost Gives Tottenham Options Ahead of Aston Villa Clash
Tottenham have some good news at last. Pedro Porro is available again for the visit of Aston Villa, after missing the last two matches with a “muscular issue”. For a side still waiting for its first Premier League goal of the season, that matters.

Roberto De Zerbi confirmed the Spain international will be ready for Saturday’s lunchtime fixture in north London. After the 3-1 Carabao Cup defeat at Liverpool, he kept the message simple. Spurs have not clicked yet, but he clearly believes they will.
“I believe in my players, I have a big confidence, a big opinion of my players, and when we arrive to find the click, to win a game, I think we enjoy with these players.”

Pedro Porro return lifts Tottenham
Porro’s comeback gives Tottenham more balance and more thrust. He is one of those full-backs who plays like an extra winger, which suits De Zerbi’s approach. That matters even more when the team is struggling for goals and rhythm.
Spurs also welcomed Mohammed Kudus back into the starting line-up at Anfield. It was his first Tottenham start since the long-term quad injury he suffered in January, and De Zerbi made it clear he sees him as central to the attack.
“Kudus is another (who is) great news for us, because he can play also as a number 10,” De Zerbi said. “We can play with Savio, Kudus, (Dominic) Solanke and (Omar) Marmoush.”
Mohammed Kudus adds attacking flexibility
That tells you plenty. De Zerbi wants numbers high up the pitch, movement between the lines and players comfortable swapping roles. He even went further, saying Spurs can operate with “eight attackers”. It sounds extreme, but the principle is obvious, push bodies forward and trust the structure later.
James Maddison fitness still key
James Maddison is part of that equation too, though not fully yet. He has not started since May 2025 after a cruciate ligament tear, with a shoulder fracture adding to the delay. He has made three substitute appearances this season, and his manager values what he brings.
“Maddison is for sure a different player, a special player,” said De Zerbi. “But he has to be fit, he has to be in the right physical condition, because the Premier League intensity, even tonight, is incredible. And then we can play with eight attackers.”
That is the situation. Tottenham still need a first league goal. With Pedro Porro back, Mohammed Kudus fit again and James Maddison edging closer, they have more tools. Now they need output.
