The Dallas Cowboys began the season with a disappointing 28-20 defeat against the New York Giants. The result left some fans frustrated and raised concerns about whether the team can avoid repeating the struggles of recent years.

Prescott completed 22 of 34 passes for 175 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He posted an 84.8 passer rating while adding 14 yards on the ground. Dallas managed 244 total yards, while New York finished with 394.

Prescott was asked about fans who worry this season could resemble the previous two campaigns. Prescott said, “I mean, it’s a long season. I love our fans, but I don’t necessarily feel like I need to speak to that fan. Sorry for them. If they’re a real fan, they’ll stick with it. They’ll trust it. They’ll believe in it. And at the end of the day, it is one game. Yeah, it sucks, it’s the first game.”

“Nobody’s more pissed than myself and these guys in here. We didn’t want to start 0-1. We’re as excited as any fan out there about the offseason and things we’ve done in the training camp. So, turn that energy and come to the game this Sunday and be as loud as you can. We appreciate it,” he added.

Prescott acknowledged the frustration surrounding the defeat and urged supporters to remain confident in the group. He encouraged fans to create a strong home atmosphere in the upcoming matchup.

With the season opener now behind them, Dallas will turn its focus to a Week 2 divisional showdown against Washington Commanders.

Cowboys need to ‘hurry’ fixing mistakes before facing Washington

The Dallas Cowboys will face the Washington Commanders in Week 2. Dallas will return to AT&T Stadium for its home opener on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET / 3:25 p.m. CT.

The Cowboys will need important contributions from key players against the Commanders. Running back Javonte Williams had 41 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 12 carries in Week 1. He also caught five passes for 31 yards and one receiving touchdown. Dallas is looking for a stronger performance after struggling offensively in the season opener.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said the team must correct its mistakes ahead of the next divisional game. He said, “And so, we got to figure out why. And we got to do it in a hurry because, uh, we got a good football team, another division opponent coming into AT&T on Sunday. And um I’m pretty sure our guys are gonna be ready to play because uh they have a bad taste in their mouth right now like we all do.”
