Keenan Allen is in his first season with the Indianapolis Colts, but he could be missing some time later this season. Allen was arrested during the preseason on a drunk-driving charge after failing a field sobriety test.
With the arrest and subsequent charges, Allen is now facing a suspension from the NFL of at least three games, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“Three-game suspensions are mandated by the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, which also stipulates that suspensions could be longer if a player is intoxicated at higher levels,” Schefter reported.

Allen was arrested on August 30, and he reportedly had a .224 BAC at the time of his arrest, which would lead to a longer suspension from the NFL. Still, the NFL is expected to wait for the legal process to play out before leveling any suspension on the veteran wide receiver. With the fact that the NFL will not move until the process plays out, Allen will continue to play for the Colts in the meantime.
The Colts could move to sit Allen, but that does not seem to be the case, as head coach Shane Steichen said they will be waiting for the legal process to play out.
The next event for this case is scheduled for October 26, and that is an attorney conference. Allen brought in six receptions for 32 yards against the Baltimore Ravens in his first game with the Colts. He is expected to be on the field when the Colts face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.
