Heading into the international break, that gap has been cut down to just 1 point.

Orlando Pirates poised to regain top spot

Sundowns sat out league action to face Al Ahli in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup on Saturday.

On paper, their 4-point lead in the PSL should have held.

Instead, Orlando Pirates defeated Marumo Gallants 2-0 on Sunday (20 September) to reduce the gap to a single point.

As cited by FlashScore, Kabelo Kgosietsile and Nkosinathi Sibisi sealed the deal for the Buccaneers.

Pirates still have a game in hand, with an opportunity to reel Mamelodi Sundowns in flawlessly.

With the MTN8 final between these clubs on 10 October, and CAF Champions League action looming, the pressure is on.

AmaZulu beginning to shut Chiefs out

In the battle for a CAF Confederation Cup place next season, Kaizer Chiefs may have gifted AmaZulu a golden opportunity.

The Amakhosi were held to a goalless draw at Golden Arrows on Sunday, according to the official PSL website.

In their Saturday fixture, meanwhile, Usuthu defeated Polokwane City away to strengthen their hold on third place.

AmaZulu are also just 3 points behind Pirates and would be aiming to stay within striking distance.

The debate is already raging about Chiefs’ prospects of being a genuine title race contender this season.

With Milford FC and Sekhukhune United close behind, the Amakhosi clearly have some work to do.
