Maxx Crosby defends Caleb Williams' reaction to hamstring injury: 'That s*** will freak you the f*** out'

Chicago Bears fans breathed a sigh of relief Monday, when it was revealed quarterback Caleb Williams could miss some time with a hamstring injury. While losing a starting quarterback to injury is never a good thing, Bears fans expected far worse news after watching Williams leave Sunday’s game.

That’s because Williams looked to be in a ton of pain at the time of the injury. Williams — who hurt his hamstring on a non-contact play in the fourth quarter — was spotted screaming in pain by broadcast cameras after the play. He draped a towel over his head as he was carted off the field and appeared emotional while heading into the tunnel. Given the non-contact nature of Williams’ injury and his response, it certainly had the air of a season-ending injury.
So when the Bears revealed Williams has a minor hamstring injury and refused to rule the quarterback out for Week 3, many questioned Williams’ reaction and toughness in the moment after he was hurt.
Anyone doing that is making a big mistake, according to Las Vegas Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby. The 29-year-old Crosby came to Williams’ defense Tuesday, saying injuries will “freak you the f*** out.”

Crosby’s comments read:
“You know, everyone has an opinion about ‘oh, why do you react this way to this certain type of thing?’ He might have never pulled a hammy in his life.
“I’ve had one hammy thing a while back and, like, that s*** will freak you the f*** out when it first happens. In his head, he probably imagined, like, ‘Oh s***. Something really bad just happened.’ And you have all these emotions and things going on.”
Crosby then sent love to Williams, saying, “We know you’ll bounce back.”
Williams has never missed a game in his NFL career. He managed that feat despite taking 68 sacks as a rookie, the most of any quarterback that season. Despite those hits, Wiliams continuously got back up and played through pain.
The Bears may need him to do that again in Week 3. A day after Ben Johnson said he expects Williams will “miss some time,” the team revealed backup Tyson Bagent is dealing with a concussion and is also in danger of missing Week 3. If Williams and Bagent are unable to go, the team would turn things over to veteran Case Keenum against the Philadelphia Eagles.
If there’s a reason for optimism for both Williams and Bagent, it’s that they have an extra day to get right, as the Bears play the Eagles on “Monday Night Football” in Week 3.
Rushing Williams back so soon might not be the best strategy considering how bad things looked Sunday, but at least Williams should be able to return to the field at some point this season.
That, alone, is worth celebrating for Bears fans.
