Registration remains open through Oct. 4 for Tackle the Trail, a long-distance running event Oct. 17 that follows the Air Line State Park Trail through northeast Connecticut during peak fall foliage season.

Since 2014, Tackle the Trail has become a destination race, according to a community announcement. Participants can choose from a marathon, marathon relay with up to five runners per team, half marathon, 10K and TackleJR. The event takes place each year on the third Saturday in October.
The course covers 26.2 miles along the northern section of the Air Line State Park Trail, stretching from Windham through downtown Putnam.
Organizers said runners still have time to register before the Oct. 4 deadline and secure a place in the event.
Race draws runners from across the U.S. and beyond
Race Director Monique Wolanin, a lifelong runner and former cross-country coach, said the event reflects the support of local organizations and volunteers.
“Each year, we are proud to welcome runners from near and far to Tackle the Trail and to our community. Tackle embodies the spirit of northeast CT, including our many local partners, sponsors, and 130 volunteers. The best part is that race proceeds support Windham County residents pursuing their higher education goals.”
According to the announcement, runners from 35 states and five countries have participated during the race’s 13-year history.
